Center on Instruction: RTI Classification Tool and Resource Locator (RTI CTRL)
This resource from the Center on Instruction (COI) contains both an online self-assessment tool and a resource filtering tool that state education agencies can use to determine their level of RTI implementation and find resources that match their needs. The self-assessment tool gauges a state’s level of RTI implementation based on responses to a short series of questions. The results subsequently generate a list of the most useful and relevant resources for the state from the collection of research-based resources currently posted on COI’s website. To access the RTI CTRL tool, click on http://www.rtictrl.org.
RTI Action Network: Tiered Instruction and Intervention in a Response-to-Intervention Model
This article, written by Dr. Edward Shapiro of the Center for Promoting Research to Practice, discusses key elements to providing tiered instruction and intervention in an RTI model including the differentiation between tiers, collaboration across all education professionals in the building, and the establishment of a workable schedule that maximizes school personnel resources. The article includes a sample school schedule using a daily time block for tiered instruction. To read the article, visit the RTI Action Network website.
IRA Survey: RTI Identified as the "Hottest of the Very Hot" Topics in Literacy
According to the 2010 "What's Hot" survey, which is conducted annually by the International Reading Association (IRA), RTI is the hottest of the "very hot" literacy topics. The survey asked 25 literacy leaders to rate different literacy topics by the level of attention that they are currently receiving. RTI, which was also ranked among the hottest topics in the 2009 survey, was identified by the respondents as the "hottest of the very hot" topics this year due to the attention it is receiving in relation to the over identification of students for special education in the United States. To download the "What's Hot" chart detailing the 2010 survey results, click here. For more information on the 2010 "What's Hot" survey, visit IRA’s website.
