WEBINAR DESCRIPTIONThe National Center on Response to Intervention is hosting a Webinar on "What is RTI?" since this topic is a top priority of states. The purpose of this Webinar is to help state education agencies understand what RTI is, which can be used to provide tiered instructional services and to identify students with learning disabilities. This Webinar will describe basic concepts of RTI and how it can be implemented in schools. Examples will be shared to illustrate how teams can be organized within schools to implement RTI.

PRESENTER 
Daryl F. Mellard, Ph.D., is a Principal Investigator with the National Center on Response to Intervention and the National Research Center on Learning Disabilities (NRCLD). NRCLD examined the identification of learning disabilities, including the application of responsiveness to intervention. Dr. Mellard directed the NRCLD staff in their review of RTI as implemented in numerous elementary school settings. Dr. Mellard has recently co-authored A Practitioner's Guide to Implementing Response to Intervention.

The National Center on Response to Intervention is a technical assistance and dissemination (TA&D) center housed at the American Institutes for Research and funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education Programs. Our mission is to build the capacity of State Education Agencies (SEAs) to assist Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in implementing proven and promising models for RTI. The goals of the Center are to:
- Identify, adapt, evaluate, and scale-up RTI models for identifying and serving students with disabilities.
- Provide TA&D to SEAs and LEAs with ongoing TA support to implement comprehensive RTI programs in districts, schools, and classrooms nationally.
- Disseminate information about proven and promising RTI models to parents, service providers, program administrators, policymakers, and other interested stakeholders across the country.
