Over the course of the summer, we have been hosting a series of free webinars on Curriculum Based Measurement (CBM). Through this series, we are sharing what CBM is, how to administer it, and how to use the data you collect in a response to intervention framework. If you missed the first two webinars of the series, you can view them online anytime.

New REL Report on the Status of State-level RTI Policies and Procedures
The National Center for Education Evaluation and Regional Assistance within the Institute of Education Sciences has released a report from REL West, "The Status of State-level Response to Intervention Policies and Procedures in the West Region States and Five Other States." Contributing to the very limited literature on state-level RTI approaches, this report describes how nine states define and support RTI at the state level. CEC RTI Blog: Exploring Response to Intervention
The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) RTI Blog invites leading experts on RTI to share their thoughts and insights on RTI, its implementation, and how it is affecting educational practice. This month the blog is hosted by Dr. Patti Ralabate, a special and gifted education policy analyst with the National Education Association (NEA). Past blogs have highlighted CEC’s newsletter and web seminars related to RTI, and other RTI resources. Also, in May, the blog featured Joseph Kovaleski, a psychology professor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and co-principal investigator of the Pennsylvania RTI Project. In his blogs, Dr. Kovaleski addressed the critical components of RTI, screening, and progress monitoring, among other RTI topics. To access the blog, visit the CEC RTI Blog website.
NCLD Archived RTI Talk: Effective Teaming and Collaboration within RTI
In this RTI Talk, hosted by the National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) on June 4th, Principal Jonathan Ross and members of the RTI team from Drexel Hill Middle School, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, shared lessons learned and important outcomes after two years of RTI implementation. The team also answered questions about school-wide approaches to collaboration and teaming to meet the needs of all learners within a Response to Intervention (RTI) framework. Alexa E. Posny Nominated as Assistant Secretary for OSERS
On July 7th, President Obama nominated Alexa E. Posny as Assistant Secretary for Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, in the U.S. Department of Education. Currently, Dr. Posny serves as Commissioner of Education for the State of Kansas. Previously, she was appointed as the Director of the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) for the U.S. Department of Education in 2006; in this position, she assisted state and local efforts to effectively educate all children and youth with disabilities. Dr. Posny is also recognized for her work promoting the Kansas Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS), a continuum of evidence-based, system-wide practices to support a rapid response to academic and behavioral needs, and for laying the groundwork for the 2007 RTI Summit in Washington D.C.
