National Center on Response to Intervention Highlights & Resources
RTI Essential Components Integrity Rubric and Worksheet
The NCRTI has recently released the RTI Essential Components Integrity Rubric. It is for use by individuals who are responsible for monitoring school-level fidelity of RTI implementation. It may also be used by schools for self-appraisal. The rubric is aligned with the Essential Components of RTI: A Closer Look at Response to Intervention (NCRTI 2010). The accompanying worksheet provides a framework for collecting relevant information and provides a place to record a school’s rating on various items related to RTI implementation.

Call for Progress Monitoring Tools
The NCRTI has announced a call for progress monitoring tools. Now through October 7th, the Center’s Technical Review Committee is accepting submissions of progress monitoring tools that can be used in an RTI context. The Center is especially interested in tools that are intended for, or have been validated with, culturally and linguistically diverse populations. All interested vendors are invited to submit. For more details see the Tools/Interventions section of our website, www.rti4success.org.

Webinar Series: RTI and Learning Disability (LD) Identification
The NCRTI has posted the third webinar in the RTI and Learning Disability Identification series. In this webinar, Dr. Lynn Fuchs, senior advisor to the NCRTI and Nicholas Hobbs Professor of Special Education and Human Development at Vanderbilt University, presents “Making Sound Decisions: Who Responds to Secondary Prevention.” Dr. Fuchs discusses what research can tell us about methods for distinguishing responders from non-responders within an RTI framework.
Other webinars in the series include Federal Policy Part I: Regulatory Requirements and Federal Policy Part II: OSEP Policy Letters, both by Dr. Lou Danielson. The next webinar in the series will be the first of three state perspectives on LD identification and comprehensive evaluation.

New IES Report Provides National Assessment of IDEA
The Institute of Education Sciences recently released the latest national assessment of IDEA, which reviews how states and districts put IDEA into practice. Results indicate the widespread use of RTI across the country. Specifically, at the state level, all but two states have state-level RTI working groups with 40 reporting they have provided training on RTI, 39 having state guidelines and 39 with RTI information available on the State website; at the district level, 71 percent of districts across the nation reported using RTI; at the school level, 61 percent of elementary schools, 45 percent of middle schools and 29 percent of high schools reported using RTI. Across the nation the majority of RTI efforts are led jointly by special education and general education. Findings also indicated that a variety of funding sources were used to support RTI including district, Title I, IDEA, and other funding sources. View the whole report for additional information on RTI implementation and IDEA. |
