The High School Tiered Interventions Initiative: Progress Monitoring (01:25:04)

The High School Tiered Interventions Initiative (HSTII) is a collaborative effort among the National Center on Response to Intervention, the National High School Center, and the Center on Instruction that explores how RTI and tiered interventions are being implemented at the high school level. During this webinar, Dr. Kristen McMaster provided an overview of Curriculum-Based Measurement (CBM), including the purpose, a brief description of research, and a demonstration of how CBM data can be used to monitor student progress.

RTI in Middle Schools (58:39)

This webinar, led by Dr. Daryl Mellard and Sara Prewett, provided an overview of current RTI practices in middle schools across the nation. The webinar also included information about how selected schools are implementing RTI in the middle grades. Topics discussed include: implementation and the planning process, common practices in screening, progress monitoring, and tiered instruction, staff preparation, data-based decision making, challenges, and next steps for RTI implementation in secondary settings.

RTI Implementation: Developing Effective Schedules at the Elementary Level (56:47)

This webinar, led by Dr. Alexandra Hilt-Panahon and Dr. Karen Gischlar offered recommendations for efficient, effective, and sustainable schedules. It also addressed issues related to the development of effective schedules for the implementation of RTI at the elementary level, including the scheduling of core instruction, intervention time, team meetings, and planning. Teachers, administrators, and technical assistance providers seeking more information about developing effective schedules for the implementation of RTI at the elementary level will find this webinar beneficial.

Planning for the Implementation of RTI: Examples from the MP3 Model Demonstration Project Webinar Follow Up (55:42)

This webinar provided state educational agencies with a description of the process the Monitoring the Progress of Pennsylvania's Pupils (MP3) project used to diagnose schools' readiness to implement RTI and assess their professional development needs. In addition, this webinar discussed the professional development provided by MP3 to the schools and described the project's initial findings.

RTI for English Language Learners: Appropriate Screening, Progress Monitoring, and Instructional Planning (01:00:02)

This webinar, led by Dr. Julie Esparza Brown, Dr. Amanda Sanford, and Erin Lolich focused on improving educational outcomes for ELLs through culturally and linguistically responsive implementation of an RTI framework in the area of elementary reading. Specifically, it discussed critical considerations to appropriately utilize screening and progress monitoring data with ELL students to improve reading outcomes by addressing the factors that influence ELL students' academic success.

Planning and First Steps for RTI (57:34)

This webinar provided examples of what planning is required before successfully implementing RTI, as well as the initial steps that should be taken when implementing RTI within schools. Examples illustrated how elementary schools have used RTI to address the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse student populations. In addition, ideas were shared to show how elementary schools have resolved challenges such as revising schedules and reallocating personnel to provide interventions.

Progress Monitoring: Dalton Gardens Elementary School

This 2006 presentation describes the use of DIBELS in progress monitoring at Dalton Gardens Elementary School, Idaho. This case study explains the process for implementation and the process for providing interventions for students that are not making progress using a tiered framework. Three Tier Reading Project

This April 2006 presentation discusses the 3-Tier Reading Model project that aims to expand the knowledge base on preventing reading disabilities through effective early reading instruction and improving early and appropriate placement in special education.  It was presented by the Del Valle ISD in conjunction with the Vaughn Gross Center for Reading and Language Arts and released by the Access Center.

The Prevention and Identification of Reading Disability

This 2006 presentation explains a study that used a 2-tier model (not including special education) in first grade, exploring RTI as a means of preventing and identifying reading disabilities. It was presented by Douglas Fuchs, Donald L. Compton, Lynn S. Fuchs, and Joan D. Bryant and released by National Research Center on Learning Disabilities.
